There are a number of obvious indicators that your hot water is no longer operating at its best. Some of these problems are fixable. Other issues cannot, such as :

• Leaks - You must replace your water heater if it is leaking. There isn't a way to avoid it. Leaks frequently occur as a result of internal tank pressure buildup. It happens when pressure builds up, the temperature is too high, or when the relief valve in the device malfunctions. A tank explosion can result if you ignore this leak for too long.

• Bang or Knocking Noises - In the middle of the night, do you hear pounding, then pounding and clanging? These loud sounds are a sign that sediment from hard water has accumulated.

• Rusty, cloudy or cold water - Any water discoloration is a blatant indication of something wrong with your tank's operation. Water's rusty odor or hue might signify a variety of things. The tank or the anode rod may be rusting from the inside out. Corrosion started at the steel liner within the tank and spread from there.
